Casio W217H – Casio Strikes Again With Retro Release!

Today, we are going to be taking a closer look at the Casio W217h. Now this is yet another watch in Casio’s ever popular retro styled line of watches. These are old school vintage styled watches that harken back to the golden era of the 80’s and 90’s. Casio has revitalized these old styles and introduced them into a brand new generation!

Just seeing these types of styles will no doubt reignite nostalgia for the older fans that remember when the styles originally gained popularity. If you fit into that group, then you may very well still possess some of the original models.

For the younger generations that didn’t grow up on these styles, they get a chance to experience the retro theme in a more modern era. While the style may not be for everybody, it will be appealing to many. This is especially true for people who prefer much slimmer and more low profile watches on their wrists.

Now while these newer retro models may not be made exactly like the originals, the overall style and design is pretty much going to be the same. You may not be even able to tell the originals from the newer models at a glance.

Anyway, moving one, we are here to review the Casio W217h. We will be looking at 3 main points of this watch. The 3 things that we are going to be taking an in depth look at are the design, features, and pricing of this watch. After thoroughly examining these factors, it should be easy to see whether or not this watch is all that it’s cracked up to be!

Casio W217h Review

First things first, let’s take a look at the specs.

Specs

  • it has a digital display
  • the watch is powered by quartz movement
  • the case has a diameter of 41.2mm and a thickness of 43.1mm
  • its band is men’s standard length and 22.5mm wide

Now, with that out of the way, let’s dive into the review! We will begin by looking at the overall build quality of this watch.

Build

The W217H may resemble some G-Shock models, but it is not built quite to the specifications of them. Take water resistance, for example. All G-Shock watches are going to have a water resistance rating of at least 200 meters. The W217H only has a water resistance rating of 50 meters. This means it can withstand showering and maybe a little swimming but is not recommended for snorkeling or diving.

Onto the rest of the build, the case is made of resin, with a stainless steel backside. The dial window is mineral crystal. And lastly, it has a watch strap that is made of plastic.

So, overall, this is a fairly decent build, especially for such a low priced watch. This build is nothing too spectacular, but it will not disappoint. Casio is known for manufacturing pretty sturdy watches at fairly affordable prices.

Now, let’s move on to the design.

Design

As you already know, this build follows the retro style them. It looks very much like a lot of the others in this series such as the W86, and the A700. A lot of Casio’s retro themed watches are virtually identical to each other, at least at first glance. The overall profile on this one, like the others in this series, is small, slim and sleek.

It is all black in color with a square case, and a thin, segmented band. There are only 3 buttons. You have the start stop button, and mode button on the left side, and the light button on the right side.

The watch face is pretty simple and standard. There is going to be the digital display, along with text that describes the functions of the watch. The text blends well in with the watch. There are no neon colors that pop out like you would find in some of their other models.

Overall, this is a simple, low profile design. Nothing about it stands out too much. Basically what you see is what you get here. Now, we can get into the features.

Features

You won’t find anything here that you haven’t seen in any other digital watch. The Casio W217H has all of the typical features that come standard in digital watches. Nothing more, nothing less.

The mode button will cycle you through the various functions of the watch, such as setting the time, and the stopwatch features. The start stop button will manipulate these functions. And of course, you have the light button, which when held, will activate the backlight.

So, as far as features go, you know what to expect here. Finally, we can take a look at the price of this watch.

Pricing

The price here is going to be a positive. This is definitely a bargain bin watch! The Casio W217H will not set you back much at all. This watch is dirt cheap!

The great thing about this is that despite the fact that this watch is so inexpensive, you know it will have a degree of longevity to it, as it is a Casio product.

Casio consistently releases quality products. This is to the point that even their cheaper models will outlast most other watches in the same price range.

Casio W217H Review Quick Summary

  • retro styled slim, low profile design
  • excellent build for the price
  • very inexpensive

Final Thoughts

Once again here, we are looking at another solid entry to Casio’s retro styled line of watches. The W217H follows in the footsteps of the F91W and the W86.

It doesn’t really bring much new to the table, but if you are a fan of Casio’s retro watches, then this one is definitely worth looking into.

That pretty much covers our Casio W217H review. Hopefully this article has been helpful and informative. If you liked what you saw here, we have plenty of other reviews of watches and watch brands. If you should feel so inclined, you can check those out here
