Revue Thommen Watches – Underappreciated Swiss?

In this article, we are going to review a Swiss watches brand named Revue Thommen. If this is your first time hearing about this brand, don’t worry, you are not alone! This particular brand is not very well known. Although, it is a Swiss brand, so that guarantees quality, right?

Traditionally Swiss watches brands have become synonymous with luxury, quality, and elegance. So, for the most part if you are getting a true Swiss made watch, then you can pretty much be assured it adheres to a higher standard in watchmaking.

However, not all Swiss watches are created equal. For instance, you also have your entry level Swiss watches. Entry level Swiss watches will give you a taste of Swiss luxury without the exorbitantly high prices normally associated with such watches.

So where does Revue Thommen fit in? That’s exactly what we are here to find out! Weare going to be examining this brand by looking at the build quality, designs, and pricing of their watches. After that, we should have a pretty good idea about whether or not this is a good Swiss brand.

But first off, what do we actually know about Revue Thommen? Well, as it turns out, they have quite a rich history.

About Revue Thommen

Revue Thommen was actually founded way back in 1853 in Waldenburg, Switzerland. This location is significant, because at this time there were not a lot of jobs available in that area. The company started producing watches as a way to provide opportunity for displaced workers in the area.

Over time the company started to find its identity. In 1916, it began manufacturing chronographs for the Swiss Air Force. This opened the door for them to become a supplier of various technical devices for the Swiss Air Force.

They have had various mergers and acquisitions throughout the years. But it was in 1987, that they officially distinguished the Revue Thommen brand as a watch brand separate from their ties to the Air Force. From there, they have gone on to produce many different watch types and establish their reputation in the Swiss luxury watch market.

Now that we have a bit of background information, we can start examining the quality of Revue Thommen watches in detail.

Revue Thommen Watches Review

The first thing we are going to look at here, is the overall build quality of these watches.

Build Quality

Revue Thommen manufactures mechanical watches using both ETA, and custom in house movements. The cases are made of stainless steel, and the dial windows are sapphire.

Water resistance in their watches ranges from 50 to 300 meters of resistance, depending on the model. Their divers, of course, will have the higher water resistance.

As far as the overall build quality goes, they stick to traditional quality builds. Their divers stand out though for their exceptionally high water resistance.

Next, we’ll take a look at the design and style of Revue Thommen watches.

Design & Style

When it comes to style, Revue Thommen has some nice selections. You will find aviator styles, chronographs, divers, and more casual luxury designs. Their aviator styles, in particular are something you don’t always see in Swiss watch brands.

Other than that, while the rest of the styles are certainly nice, and have their own unique personality, they really don’t stand out too much from the crowd when it comes to Swiss luxury watches.

That being said, this is not necessarily a bad thing. But since there are so many other brands to choose from, it will make a more difficult case as to why you would choose Revue Thommen over another brand.

Now that we’ve covered the design and style, let’s get into pricing.

Pricing

Once again, when it comes to Swiss watches, because of the level of quality and craftsmanship they are known for, Swiss watches often come with a high price tag.

Luckily, in the case of Revue Thommen, they are in a more affordable range. While prices vary from model to model, with some being in the higher ranges, you will find that their watches are mid priced, on average.

Even then, the watches are not necessarily cheap, but if you browse through their collections, and budget accordingly, you can probably afford some of these watches. The overall prices are not entirely out of reach to the average consumer.

So, what can we conclude about this brand? As it turns out, Revue Thommen may be something of a hidden gem. They do produce quality Swiss watches. Their divers have a very good water resistance and are legitimate for their intended use.

Stylistically speaking, however, they are somewhat more generic, although their aviator/pilot style watches are standouts.
