Lacoste Watches – Are They Worth It?

There are going to be times when you hear about a watch brand and wonder whether or not they are worth looking into. In this review, we will be taking a look at Lacoste watches.

Now, this is one of those brands that may not be very well known. And that in and of itself is probably the reason why you came to this article in the first place! Well, don’t worry, because we are going to cover everything you need to know about this brand.

The first thing to know about this brand is that it is considered to be more of a fashion watch brand. This means that the focus is placed more on style rather than a luxurious build. So, keep in mind, we are comparing it against watches in the fashion space rather than luxury.

With that being said, we will cover the basic 3 points that you should look for in a good watch brand. These are going to be the build quality, design, and pricing. After all, who doesn’t want an affordable quality watch with stylish designs?

Before we begin, however, there are a few things that you might want to know about this brand.

About Lacoste

Lacoste, has actually been around since the 1930’s. It was founded by a popular French tennis player named Jean René Lacoste. He is credited as the inventor of the polo shirt. It is a fashion brand that makes clothing, but they later got into manufacturing watches as well.

Anyways, Lacoste watches are actually manufactured by Movado. The Movado Group, if you didn’t already know, is a large and recognized American watch manufacturer. Lacoste did produce watches before they partnered with Movado. However, it was in 2006 that Lacoste signed a deal with Movado to manufacture and distribute their watches.

Now, that we covered some of the back story, we are now going to start looking at the actual watches to find out if Lacoste is a good brand or not.

Lacoste Watches Review

The first thing we are going to look at here is the overall build quality of these watches.

Build Quality

Lacoste watches use mostly analog displays, although there are some digital and ana-digi models as well. They are powered by quartz movements.

The cases can be made of either stainless steel or resin, and the dial windows are made out of mineral crystal. Water resistance among Lacoste watches ranges from 30 to 50 meters of resistance depending on the particular model.

These builds overall are pretty decent for a more fashion oriented brand. Nothing too spectacular, but not to shabby either. Next, we will be looking at the design and style of these watches.

Design & Style

Stylistically speaking, it can be pretty much hit or miss. It is true that they do have some really decent looking styles, and even have styles more befitting a luxury watch brand.

On the other hand, however, there are also a lot of styles that just look rather plain and generic. Thankfully these are not in the majority though.

So, for the most part, depending on your tastes, you will probably find something you like here. These styles are nothing groundbreaking, but they do have some good ones.

Lastly, we are going to be taking a look at the pricing.

Pricing

Prices are going to vary, of course, among Lacoste’s different watch models. Some are relatively inexpensive. A lot of them, are going to be more expensive than many of the other fashion brands out there.

This does make sense to some degree, as their builds are of a higher quality than your average fashion watch brand. However, some of these prices still do seem a bit high regardless.

Overall, though while the prices do trend a bit high, they are still pretty reasonable. They don’t get anywhere near as high as the typical luxury brand.

Final Conclusion: Is Lacoste a Good Watch Brand?

So, are Lacoste watches really worth a purchase? This brand is a fashion brand that tries to scratch the surface of entry level luxury watches. They do actually have some pretty nice pieces. And while the prices aren’t too high, to be honest, there still really isn’t too much going on here to justify some of the higher prices.

Now if you just absolutely love the design choices, then sure, by all means get what you like. But overall, Lacoste watches seemingly fall short when it comes to the actual value you are getting here.
