Even if Perrelet is not a household name, it is easy to get a sense that the name itself possesses an air of foreign sophistication.
The truth is that you really don’t hear to much about this brand as Rolex is the go to name in luxury watches. Others in the space include Tag Heur and Cartier. So then where do Perrelet watches fit into the luxury market when compared to these giants within the watch industry?

A Brief History Of Perrelet Watches
Perrelet watches began with a Swiss watchmaker named Abraham-Louis Perrelet. An interesting fact about Mr. Perrelet, is that in 1777, he actually invented the self-winding feature found in automatic watches today!
His version was, however, incomplete, as it used a a pivoting weight. It would be 1 year later in 1778 that watchmaker Hubert Saton would add a central rotor to complete the movement.
Moving on, in 1780, Perrelet sold some of his watches to a man who coincidentally had the same name as him! This man was Abraham-Louis Breguet. Breguet attempted to improve upon Perrelet’s movement with his own “perpetuelles”, as they were called. However, these proved to be ineffective. Breguet consequentially ceased manufacturing them in 1810.
Meanwhile, back at Perrelet’s factory, he would go on to train his grandson, Louis-Frédéric Perrelet, in the art of watchmaking. Louis-Frédéric Perrelet would continue to make advances in marine watches and the chronograph.
Finally, after Abraham-Louis Perrelet died in 1854, his son, Louis, continued the Perrelet watchmaking business. After some time, though there was a long period where the brand was inactive.
Now fast-forward to 2004. It was at this point that the Perrelet business was resurrected by the Festina Group. Even now, the Perrelet brand remains a subsidiary of Festina to this day.

In this section, we will cover several aspects of this brand. We will be looking at the build quality, design, and price of Perrelet watches.
Build Quality
As is often the case in luxury watches, Perrelet watches function on mechanical movements, namely, Swiss automatic movements.
These watches have cases that can be made from stainless steel, or even higher grade materials such as gold, or titanium.
The bands on the watches can be made of rubber, leather, gold, or stainless steel. The exact configuration of both case/band materials will depend entirely on what particular Perrelet model you are looking at.
Finally, the dial windows will be made of sapphire, which is the material of choice when it comes to luxury watches.
The water resistance does vary from model to model, but a resistance to a depth of 165 feet is pretty common in Perrelet watches. Some will have much more than that though, with a water resistance to depths of over 900 feet deep.
Design
As for the design, Perrelet watches do not stick to the same basic formula as other luxury watch brands. In their watches, they tend to have a more unique and sportier look to them. It makes them stand out among their contemporaries. This fact is especially apparent in their popular Turbine series of watches.
While it is true that they do offer watches with a standard, and more traditional look, it is the ones with the flashier designs that really get peoples’ attention. You can definitely see an artistic appeal in some of their designs.
Pricing
Since we are looking at a luxury watch, you pretty much already know that they are not going to be cheap. You will be spending a lot of money when purchasing one of these watches.
Perrelet watches can be purchased for as little as an entry level luxury watch pricing, to rivaling price giants such as Rolex, and Cartier. It really all depends on the model, seller, year, and condition of the watch. At these prices, this is definitely a big budget watch. Not for those trying to keep spending to a minimum!

Perrelet’s Famous Turbine Watches
Perrelet’s Turbine collection is their most notable watch series. These watches incorporate Perrelet’s own in house double rotor movement.
The double rotor movement is just what it sounds like. This type of movement takes advantage of two rotors, with one being near the dial, and the other being on the side of the watch.
These rotors move in synchronization in order to deliver continuous energy into the watch mechanism. It can be argued, however, that this is more for show than for actual function.
The Turbine watches put this double rotor concept on full display, delivering a very interesting visual spectacle! These may not appeal to everyone, and could seem like a gimmick to some, but the fact remains, that Perrelet’s Turbine watches have historically been, and continue to be very popular for this brand.
Final Thoughts
To conclude this Perrelet watches review, I’m going to say that I think this is a highly underrated brand. It is a quality luxury watch that doesn’t quite get the attention it deserves. At least, not in the United States anyway.
It is understandable, that at these prices, people may be a lot less willing to spend that kind of money. Now am I saying you should go run out and buy a Perrelet watch? No, of course not! But what I am saying though, is that I do believe that Perrelet watches have a place among any luxury watch enthusiast’s collection!
